The WMF Clinical Database Project

WMF Clinical Database Project WMF Human Cognitive Abilities Project WMF Research Bulletin Board Doctoral Dissertation Abstract Project

The Woodcock-Muñoz Foundation Clinical Database Project (CDB) is an ongoing and expanding data collection project designed to facilitate research that contributes to a better understanding of the neuropsychological and cognitive basis of a variety of diagnosed cognitive, learning, and mental exceptionalities.

The CDB is a research database that includes detailed information on specific cognitive abilities and sensory-motor abilities; it is indexed by subject demographic information. Specific cognitive abilities include: general intellectual ability, long-term retrieval, short-term/working memory, comprehension-knowledge, fluid reasoning, cognitive processing speed, auditory and visual-spatial processing, attention, listening, learning efficiency, word finding/verbal retrieval, and aspects of executive functioning. Specific achievement abilities include: reading, mathematics, written language, and knowledge. The sensory and motor battery includes tests that evaluate simple and complex visual, auditory, and tactile perception, and gross and fine motor functioning.

Information included in the CDB is obtained from a number of sources, including archived clinical records and clinical research studies.

Archived clinical records. The primary sources of CDB information are archived subject records provided by a variety of collaborating psychological and medical professionals. A standard research data collection protocol is used to extract uniform and structured subject demographic and psychological test information from the archived clinical records.

Clinical research studies. New subject data is sometimes obtained by the individual administration of standardized norm-referenced psychological assessment instruments either directly by WMF research staff or by referral sources staff (under the direction of and supervision by WMF research staff).

The database is analyzed by WMF research staff and independent researchers. Requests for additional information and for procedures for submitting a request to analyze portions of the WMF Clinical Database should be directed to Kevin S. McGrew, PhD, Research Director, at k.mcgrew@woodcock-munoz-foundation.org
